Phosphates: a key driver of sulphur and ammonia demand

Friday, 25 March

12:00 pm - 12:20 pm (CST) / 25/mar/2022 05:00 pm - 25/mar/2022 05:20 pm
As ammonia and sulphur are key raw materials for phosphate production, the phosphate fertilizer sector will be significantly affected by the impact of decarbonisation on the manufacture and availability of those products. Sulphuric acid is a key raw material for the production of wet-process phosphoric acid (the main phosphate fertilizer intermediate) and for the production of single superphosphate. Ammonia is used to produce ammoniated phosphates, the largest volume class of the phosphate fertilizer sector. The presentation will provide an overview of key drivers in phosphate markets, highlighting the largest areas of production and consumption, key recent developments, and our expectations for the next few years, providing insight to understand the expected evolution of demand for its raw materials – both in terms of global scale and geographical concentration.
