Senior Sustainability Advisor, New Market Development

Dr. Melanie Bower has worked at ExxonMobil for 22 years. As a seasoned sustainability professional, she has held various technical and regulatory affairs leadership positions within ExxonMobil’s Chemical Company (EMCC). Additionally she held management roles in Chemical’s Manufacturing and the Product Stewardship & Regulatory Affairs function, including global roles as the Regulatory Compliance Manager and the Sustainability Manager for one of EMCC’s core business lines. In these roles, Melanie built strong teams with a focus on pursuing bold opportunities that achieved results. These roles provided her a strong foundation of EMCC's chemical portfolio and the integral role these products play in addressing sustainability challenges.

Melanie uses these years of experience to lead the company’s plastic waste solutions programs and external sustainability collaborations. Currently, she leads EMCC’s team focused on addressing policy related to recycling of plastic waste in the Americas. She represents the company’s views on a variety of external associations including American Chemistry Council (ACC), Plastics Industry Association and The Recycling Partnership. Additionally she is an integral team member of the Alliance to End Plastic Waste— a not-for-profit, cross value chain organization with a mission to eliminate plastic waste in the environment. Melanie is a vocal advocate for addressing the plastic waste challenge and represents ExxonMobil at various internal and external events.

Melanie holds a Ph.D. in Chemistry from Florida State University.
